Technical Assistant (f/m/d)

We are looking for a highly-motivated research technician to work on brown algal culture and genetics. You will contribute to the dynamic research program in a friendly environment while having the opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience at one of the best biological research institutes in Germany.

The position is available from 01. August 2025 and is limited for one year. An extension is not planned.

Your responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of cultures of algae for the Department
  • Assist in genotyping
  • Use CRISPR approaches to knock out candidate genes in brown algae

Your profile:

Applicants should have previous experience with standard techniques of molecular biology (e.g., pipetting, DNA and RNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis) and brown algae manipulation in axenic conditions. Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills in English. Expertise in marine macroalgae and processing and analyzing scientific microscopy images is an advantage.
